How to drill Kerlite with dry core bits (new thin tile from Cotto D’Este)

July 9th, 2009 admin No comments

We received many requests about how to drill the innovative tile named Kerlite (3,5 mm thin) by Cotto D’este.
The frequent questions are the following:
Is it possible to make holes in Kerlite and with which drilling tools?
Is it possible to make holes in Kerlite with dry drilling tools (core bits)?
Which type of finishing is it possible to obtain?
How many holes can I make in Kerlite with dry core bits?

We think that the best way to give you the answers is to show you a real example. In the video below we made some different very small holes inside a Kerlite sample using different dry use drilling tools, our FTJ05 AND FTJ06 – FT10 – FS 08 and FS35.
As you can see looking at the video, with these core bits it is easy to make holes inside Kerlite tile and the finishing is very good. Concerning the number of holes, we can say that you can make the double (approx) numbers of holes compared a standard ceramic tile.
Please note that, specially for dry drilling in tiles, it is necessary to use the tools in a correct way.
